Bach Khoa Innovation (BKI) is officially back for its 8th season in 2025 — and it’s bigger and bolder than ever! This year marks a new milestone as the competition expands in both scale and reach, welcoming international teams and launching the all-new University–Industry Collaboration track (U-I Track).

Assoc. Pof. Dr. Pham Tran Vu, Vice President, speaking at the event.

The Opening Ceremony took place on April 12, 2025, at Hall A5, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), bringing together over 500 high school and university students and esteemed guests and representatives. The event welcomed Mr. Vo Minh Thanh – Deputy Director of the HCMC Department of Science and Technology, key sponsors, partners, and supporting units. Representing HCMUT was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tran Vu, Vice President of HCMUT, joined by faculty leaders and mentors.

From a university-level initiative, Bach Khoa Innovation has grown into a prestigious and influential competition within the academic community of Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding areas, and now reaching national and international levels. By building an integrated platform for research & development (R&D), manufacturing, and business in science and technology, BKI equips young people with the essential knowledge and skills for innovation and entrepreneurship in the modern era, supported by experts and investors.

According to the strategic long-term vision of the competition, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tran Vu, Vice President of HCMUT, highlighted three main new features of BKI 2025. First is the U-I Category – an initiative that bridges the gap between academia and industry to collaboratively solve real-world problems, generating practical value for society. Second, the competition has taken a more definitive step toward internationalization, welcoming a team from Singapore Management University (SMU) and increased participation from international enterprises. Third, BKI 2025 will focus more on the high school segment, contributing to early STEM education for youth.

This season, BKI 2025 features the continuation of three traditional Categories:

  • High School Student Category (teams of students from domestic and international high schools);
  • University Student Category (students and recent graduates within the past two years);
  • Start-up Category (innovative or start-up projects or companies established after January 2020);
  • And the official launch of the University–Industry Collaboration Category  (U-I  Category).

In 2025, the U-I Category features collaboration with Malaya Glass Company Vietnam (O-I BJC) and Indefol Solar Joint Stock Company. O-I BJC aims to find innovative solutions to improve the efficiency of glass packaging collection and recycling in Vietnam. Meanwhile, Indefol Solar challenges teams to propose cost-effective, scalable solutions for green hydrogen production.

BKI 2025 is open to all bold ideas across multiple fields — from AI, IoT, digital transformation, environmental engineering, healthcare, chemistry, mechatronics, and beyond. Teams will be judged on innovation, prototype or model feasibility, market potential, team dynamics, and presentation. Alongside the competition, participants will also receive expert guidance and funding support.

Throughout the competition, participants not only compete but also receive technical and financial support. Especially noteworthy is the total prize value of over 600 million VND, waiting to reward the most outstanding teams of the season. Gather your team and register now!
